SUMMER SABBATHS AND VACATIONS

Please remember to continue your regular offerings to our congregation even as you enjoy your times of Sabbath rest throughout the summer months. As we pray for your safety in travels and in camping, please remember YOUR church in your prayers and in your giving that YOUR church may pay its ongoing expenses. Thank you! And God bless!

View and discuss the 2018 Movie – “Green Book”
Pizza will be served

This movie is about the friendship between pianist and composer, Don Shirley and Tony Lip, his driver and bodyguard as “Doc” Shirley and his trio toured the American South in the early 1960’s. The title refers to The Negro Travelers’ Green Book, compiled by Victor Hugo Green, published from 1936-1967. The Green Book gave black motorists the names of places where they could safely stay, eat and visit travel related businesses during the Jim Crow era. A sign-up sheet is posted in the narthex. We
will need an accurate count in order to order the pizzas. For more information please contact Linda Bullen, 561-315-7669 or lindabullen@comcast.net

Our annual Strawberry Festival will be held on Wednesday, June 12 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Strawberry shortcake and sundaes will be served. 2024 Camper and Guardian Handbook

Church Council is again offering $250 scholarships towards camp registration for our children and youth interested in attending Lutherlyn or Camp Agape. There are day programs for children as young as children entering 1st grade this fall, up through week-long camps from 4th -12th grades. Additional information may be found online at www.lutherlyn.com or www.campagape.org.   Please contact Pastor Steiner or a member of church council to discuss camper scholarships. For many children and youth their time at camp has been a formative part of their faith development.

Women of Brush CreekWOMEN OF BRUSH CREEK

The Women of Brush Creek thank the congregation for their support for the Blackburn project. Thirty-one people attended a luncheon on Wednesday, April 24, on
behalf of the center. Your kindness and generosity will help those suffering from domestic abuse. The women will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, May 22, when Gwen Steiner will provide information on upcoming mission projects.

SOCIAL MINISTRY & OUTREACH UPDATES

There are a lot of opportunities listed in the upcoming months.  Please do not feel like you need to do everything.  We hope, though, that you will find something of interest and share your gifts and be Jesus’ hands and feet in the life of the world.

HELPING HANDS

Join us on Saturday, June 8 from 10-noon at Brush Creek as we make items for a variety of kits and prepare kits/in-gatherings for delivery or shipping. Details about these projects will be highlighted closer to our gathering. These activities can be completed by children, youth, and adults. All are invited for a morning of fellowship and fun. Any questions, please contact Gwen at projecthopepz@verizon.net or cell phone (724) 882-4749.

MAY AND JUNE PROJECT HOPE

During the month of May, we are featuring both The Fisher House and The Family House. Located in Pittsburgh the Fisher House provides a distance from our area VA Medical Centers. The Family House provides similar support to those with family members at our other medical centers. Items needed are coloring books for adults, colored pencils, puzzle books, granola bars, or any individual serving size snack items, Keurig type coffee pods, and small notebooks/pads. Westmoreland Community Action Head Start is our June featured organization. This organization works with families within our communities with children 3 yrs – 5 yrs old, providing essential resources and supports. Our ingathering is individual packets of goldfish crackers, individual mac & cheese cups, fruit cups or fruit and jello cups, coloring books, crayons and storybooks for this age group of children.

STITCHES OF HOPE

Our Stitches of Hope project is crocheting/knitting dish cloths and scrubbies. These will be distributed to area shelters and programs that assist with housing related needs. Some yarn, such as peaches and crème or Scrubby yarn will be available in the churches’ narthexes. No particular pattern is recommended, so if you have one, you may use it. Looking for a pattern? These are also available. Any questions, please contact Gwen.

USHERS AND COMMUNION ASSISTANTS

With our return to our formal communion practice we are in need of both ushers and communion assistants.  Please contact Rich Siniawski if you would like to volunteer as an usher .

THRIVENT ACTION TEAMS

All Thrivent members are encouraged to use the Thrivent Action Team Grants available to them through Thrivent as a way to give back to our church and our community. Each Thrivent member is entitled to two $250 grants per year to support an activity or mission project. This equals several thousand dollars of Action Team grants available through the number of Thrivent members we have within our parish. Let us be good stewards by not letting this money pass us by…see or contact Gwen Steiner if you would like suggestions of possible programs you can support through these grants and Project Hope or application support.
